Summary
Stickman Odyssey is a revision of Homer's epic in which one man, Zozimos, sets out to return home and fulfil his destiny.
Analysis
Stickman Odyssey echoes the Homeric tale in many aspects – such as beginning with an evocation of the muse typical in Greek epics – and introduces the story to a contemporary audience with directness and familiarity through the use of parody. Though the simplicity of the stick figures seems to contradict the seriousness of the content, the doodling that accompanies the story makes it an easy and interesting read appropriate for middle-grade children and young adults, allowing readers to ease into the content without becoming overwhelmed.
