Contents & Purpose
This website provides brief information on specific Greek gods and goddesses. The feature divinities are: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Aphrodite, Hades, Hermes, Demeter, Apollo, Athena. For each deity a photo of a statue is included.
Further comments
The information on the divinities covers their attributes (playing a lyre, being fast or intelligent), sacred animals etc.
The section on Demeter also includes the information that it was believed that “her daughter, Persephone, was taken from her for four months each year, during which Demeter would grieve and withdraw her gifts form the world, creating winter.” This explanation is the main point made about the goddess and connects her figure with the changing of the seasons without revealing too much of the original myth.
